Channing Paluck | Readiness Musicianship

Channing A. Paluck joined ROCmusic in November of 2022 and currently serves as Musicianship Instructor with the Ginny Morris Readiness Strings Program and the Studio Prep Program. During the 2022-2023 school year, Dr. Paluck served as the Assistant Director of ROCmusic.

Dr. Paluck has extensive experience teaching on the elementary and university level. From 1997-2006, he taught at Enrico Fermi School No. 17 in Rochester, NY, where he served as both elementary general music teacher and primary instructor with the string program, Strings at 17. This program was the centerpiece of a grant-funded partnership between the Rochester City School District and Eastman School of Music (ESM) that aimed to create an ideal urban music program. He became involved with Strings at 17 in 1999 in order to integrate general music and string instruction. Upon assuming leadership of the program in 2000, an important part of Dr. Paluck’s duties was working with ESM faculty and graduate students to recruit, develop, and supervise ESM students who taught after-school private lessons to students in Strings at 17.

In 2022-2023, Dr. Paluck was an Instructor of Music Teaching and Learning (part-time) at ESM. His duties at ESM focused on string pedagogy. He worked with undergraduate students in the development of a sequence of string pedagogy for beginning- and intermediate-level students, and supervised the ESM students as they applied their knowledge in weekly private lessons with ROCmusic students.

Before his most recent work at ESM, Dr. Paluck was an adjunct faculty member at the University of Hong Kong, teaching Research in Music Teaching and Learning and Psychology in Music to graduate students seeking their Postgraduate Diploma in Music. In 2005-2006, Dr. Paluck also served as an Instructor of Music Education (part-time) at ESM, teaching Practicum in String Teaching in an Urban Setting.

Dr. Paluck earned his Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Illinois and a Master of Arts in Music Education (with certification) from the Eastman School of Music. He also graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in Music and Sociology.
