Anika Grieve | Studio Strings Assistant

A native of Toronto Canada, Anika Grieve moved to Rochester in the fall of 2022 to pursue a dual-degree in cello performance and history at the Eastman School of Music/University of Rochester. At Eastman, Anika is a student of Professor David Ying and an active participant in a variety of ensembles and outreach initiatives such as the Eastman Performing Arts Medicine program. While Anika has performed in many roles, including principal cellist of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra (TSYO) and Interlochen World Youth Orchestra, she has a particular passion for string quartet playing and teaching. As the founding member of the BASQ string quartet, she performed a variety of concerts in seniors residences, alleyways, and even on Toronto Island to reach the Toronto community during the pandemic. In 2021 and 2022 she rediscovered how much she enjoys working with young children when she worked as a volunteer at the Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital in Toronto. Before then, she also volunteered at the Oakville Suzuki Camp assisting with choir and orchestra rehearsals. In her spare time Anika is an athlete and lover of the outdoors, enjoying long-distance running, swimming and backpacking.
