Rhythm Section

ROCmusic’s Rhythm Section draws its name from the rhythm section of an ensemble. The rhythm section is the core group of instruments responsible for a band’s underlying rhythm and harmony, also known as the “groove.” These instruments typically include drum set, bass guitar, and keyboard.

Our Rhythm Section focuses on instruments typically found in R&B, Hip-Hop, Pop, and Gospel Music. In this program students ages 8-18 can choose the bass guitar, drum set, keyboard, or studio production as their primary instrument of study. The Rhythm Section meets at the Gantt R-Center where we are in the process of refurbishing our studio space to be a fully functioning Recording Studio. Students in the Rhythm Section receive the following:

  • weekly small group technique classes on their primary instrument

  • weekly small group repertoire classes on their primary instrument

  • a weekly band rehearsal (intermediate to advanced students only)

  • opportunities to be recorded or record others in the Recording Studio

  • an instrument to check out for the school year

  • performance opportunities throughout the community

  • access to local concerts and other cultural events
