Jonathan Fleischman
Jonathan Fleischman (he/him) is a current PhD student at the Eastman School of Music, studying Music Education. He joined the ROCmusic community in 2025 to assist with the mentor teacher program, helping Studio String students jump start a teaching path with Readiness students. Jonathan holds a Master of Arts in Music Education from Eastman, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Viola Performance from Ithaca College. As a teaching assistant in the Department of Music Teaching and Learning at Eastman, he assists with elementary and secondary string methods courses, and teaches a secondary violin class. Before returning to Eastman, Jonathan most recently taught at Ithaca High School in Ithaca, NY, where he led two orchestras and taught beginning and intermediate music theory. He has also taught varying levels of orchestra and general music in the Syracuse, NY and Macon, GA areas.
As a researcher, Jonathan has a passion for culturally responsive music pedagogy, string pedagogy, and curricula and frameworks within a music lens. He has published with *American String Teacher*, and has presented sessions and posters for the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), American String Teachers Association (ASTA), the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). He holds affiliations with NYSSMA, ASTA, NAfME, the Society for Music Teacher Education (SMTE), and the Mu Phi Epsilon professional music fraternity.
As a violist and violinist, he enjoys performing in Central and Western New York for various engagements and pit orchestras. He is excited to be joining ROCmusic to help foster the next generation of music educators!
