Frederick Dicks
Rhythm Section & Band
Frederick Dicks is a seasoned musician with over 31 years of experience as a drummer and more than 25 years as a pianist, organist, and percussionist. Trained at the Hochstein School of Music, he has built a rich legacy as a performer, educator, and minister of music. His career includes serving as Minister of Music at several churches throughout the Rochester area, where he has nurtured and inspired worship through excellence in musicianship.
In addition to his church work, Frederick has led large-scale productions such as directing a 200-voice choir for multiple years at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Songfest hosted by Colgate Rochester Divinity School. He has also had the honor of performing with and alongside renowned artists including John P. Kee, Marvin Winans, Byron Cage, and Judah Sealy, among many others. Carrying forward the musical legacy of his father, Julius Dicks—a musician whose accomplishments span televised productions and collaborations with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra—Frederick continues to invest in future generations through more than 20 years of private music instruction.
Passionate about the transformative power of music, Frederick’s artistry reflects both technical mastery and heartfelt devotion. As he often reminds his students, “Music is the divine way to tell beautiful, poetic things to the heart” (Pablo Casals).
