Teachers and Staff | Anna Denfeld

Violist and educator Anna Denfeld has a passion for learning, teaching and performing all genres of music. Most recently, she performed with local orchestras in the New York area, such as the Southern Tier Symphony and Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes. Anna has also had the opportunity to explore film score performance with the Empire Film and Media Ensembles, performing movies such as Elf, La La Land, and Titanic.

In addition to her passion for performing classical and modern music, Anna is also committed to the education of young musicians. She has studied both the Suzuki and Royal College of Music (RCM) methods of teaching and has taught a wide range from beginner to advanced students. She believes each student should be taught uniquely based on their own needs, and her diverse background in musical genres has influenced the range of music her students study.

Anna is currently a student at the Eastman School of Music pursuing her Doctoral of Musical Arts in Viola Performance. She recently completed her Masters of Music in Viola Performance and Literature (2025) under the tutelage of professor George Taylor. She completed a Bachelor of Music from Boston University in Viola Performance (2023) with principal violist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Steve Ansell. Anna has had the opportunity to study with a number of violists such as, Danny Kim, Daniel Dona, and Joshua Newburger, and has thus cultivated a diverse background in viola pedagogy.

Aside from performing and teaching, Anna loves to cook, read and go hiking with her friends.
